Abstract
Interactive packaging research areas have a great concerned to develop and create attractive packaging item with eco-friendly and health impact. Interactive design science was applied to design attractive packaging mugs with crocodile, ancient Egyptian god, three-dimension body. In addition, different designs were applied on mug forms for various ancient Egyptian dogs with information about them. 3D printing technology was used to produce two mugs from polylactic acid (PLA) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) filaments as biodegradable and eco-friendly polymer. The 3D printed mugs are designed as a prototype for the consumer. PLA and ABS mugs were investigated as acceptable packaging materials with mechanical properties, overall migration. The samples were analyzed for overall migration was measured according to EC 2011/10. PLA and ABS exhibited good physico-mechanical properties with for 42 and 76 MPa tensile strength and 4.6, 3.8 % elongation at break, respectively as hard packaging item. The overall migration was acceptable according to EC 2011/10. 3D printing, interactive design and packaging materials research fields are combined to create sustainable packaging mugs for interested and healthy applications.
Overall, interactive design, ancient Egyptian identity and 3D printing with ecofriendly PLA and ABS are shared together to produce interactive design mug with Egyptian vision.
