A Comparative Study Between Potato Packages for the End User in the Egyptian Market
As packaging is considered a system through which fresh products can be reached to the end user in a safe condition, therefore there is a constant need for developing materials used to contain products during storage, transportation and distribution, As choosing the appropriate materials saves the product from many loss factors as each product has different needs and levels of protection. Research problem: low quality of some potato packages due to technological and technical problems closely related to materials, packaging, and their requirements to protect the product and the consumer, and hence the research importance is to improve the Egyptian potato package and it’s functional and aesthetical performance in terms of conformity with modern standard specifications and enhancing its competitiveness. The research comprises Potato packaging requirements, standards and requirements of raw materials and packages. Therefore, the research aims to determine the right packaging material suitable for the requirements of agricultural products (potatoes) and their fulfillment of the requirements of good packaging. Methodology: The study followed descriptive analytical approach to determine the extent to which the Egyptian potato packages meet the packaging requirements, as it relied on a survey study of the product's packages, then a descriptive study describing those packages and an analytical study was adopted verifying the extent to which those packages fulfill the requirements of packaging. Findings: polyethylene bags with model (A) achieved the highest percentage of fulfilling the physical and chemical requirements of the product due to its convenient features that provided package protection.
