The Aesthetic and Expressive Values of Complementary Colors and their Employment in Contemporary Paintings

Abstract
Color occupies an important place in the aspects of fine arts activities and it is an important element that enable the artist to deal with the elements of composition, as he distinguishes between areas and masses, and expresses his attitudes and feelings. color represents a great expressive and aesthetic energy in general, and particularly in Painting. It is the Painters' way of expressing himself and what the subconscious contains. The research deals with the aesthetic and expressive values of the complementary colors, to express the researcher’s feelings and thoughts, its connection with rhythm and movement, and the different effects it creates between form and background, warm and cold, and go beyond the limits of the realistic form to reach the soul. The study assumed that it is possible to achieve aesthetic and expressive values of complementary colors in contemporary paintings, and the study aimed to employ the aesthetic and expressive values of color complementary and get benefits of it to enrich the painting. The study concluded that color has multiple functions that contribute to creating a strong and quick impression of the artwork and creating symbolic effects because of the emotional overtones that colors suggest, as well as what it adds of aesthetic value to the form. the study recommended the need to get benefit of the aesthetic, expressive and tactile values of color as tools that have the effective ability to inspire innovative artistic forms and to achieve the artist's vision towards activating his ideas and conceptual orientations.
