The Utilization of Critical Thinking During the Product Design Process
Damietta University, Faculty of Applied Arts, Industrial Design Department, Egypt.
Abstract
The product designer faces many choices, problems to solve, ideas to evaluate or analyze, and he has to make logical decisions. These activities are usually influenced by the designer's internal and external factors such as biases, incomplete information, distortions and prejudices, which may lead to misleading solutions or choices. Therefore, following a critical thinking approach that includes studying problems, examining available options and logically evaluating them to make decisions can change the designer's way of thinking to reach the best results. Critical thinking skills have become a major goal of modern education, as a major tool for problem-solving. Product design and development institutions are competing to possess creative designers minds, with creative and critical thinking skills, who are able to analyze and develop innovative design perceptions, The problem lies in the inability of some product designers to use the method of critical thinking to analyze data, develop innovative design perceptions, Making the right decisions and evaluating solutions and opinions as a result of internal or external biases or insufficient information, during the various stages of the design process. What, importance, principles, stages, strategies for its development, and how to benefit from it in the process of teaching product design and development. The research reached a general scheme that combines critical thinking throughout the design process, which confirms the need to teach product designers the activities of critical thinking and train them on how to use it during the various stages of the product design and development process.
