The Impact of Augmented Reality on the Development of Design Thinking and Marketing for Glass Lighting Units
Glass Dept., Applied Arts Faculty, Helwan University, Egypt.
Abstract
Augmented reality technology is one of the modern technologies. It is "the technology of merging virtual information with reality", and it is used in different fields such as industry, marketing, and many others. Glass lighting units are among the essential products that vary greatly, allowing for the creation of a huge number of design ideas that meet and fulfill the needs of customers using Augmented Reality technology. The research explores two main problems, which are, how the augmented reality technology can be activated in the field of glass lighting units to satisfy customer’s needs and the possibility of augmented reality technology positively affecting the design and marketing of glass lighting units. The research aims at defining the most important factors influencing the process of developing the design of the glass units used in the online marketed lighting units and achieving an easier shopping experience by adding the feature that allows customers to choose their own designs and previewing them using augmented reality technology. The methodology used in the research is both descriptive and analytical. The most important findings of the research were that the use of augmented reality technology during the design stages of the glass lighting units led to new design patterns. Thus, the glass lighting module designer's knowledge of augmented reality techniques and renewable applications will raise the designer's efficiency and create new design patterns for glass lighting units marketed using augmented reality techniques.
